Hans Ole Brasen (b.1849 Hillerod—d.1930 Copenhagen)

H.O. Brasen was a well known Danish landscape painter. He was educated at the Kunstakademiet from 1867-74, and later studied under, among others, Leon Bonnat in Paris from 1979-1880.

He was known for his study and usage of light reflections in the natural landscapes he observed, and took inspiration from his surroundings in Fredendborg and Jyllinge, in Denmark, and from trips to Italy as well as time spent in Tyrol.

In his very popular and charming landscapes, people and animals live out their everyday lives in within a realism style.

Brasen exhibited from 1871 regularly in Charlottenborg, as well as in world exhibits in Paris in 1889, Chicago and Munich in 1893, and Paris in 1900 where he received a Mention Honorable. In 1894 he received the Eckersberg Medal.
