Gorgeous set of 4 maritime engravings of sail ships in various conditions by renowned 18th century engraver Pierre-Charles Canot.

Set comprised of 4 nautical motifs after Wm van de Welde: "A Fresh Gale", "A Light Air of Wind", "A Calm" and "A Gale". All signed Wm van de Welde pinxit/P.C. Canot sculpsit, published by John Boydell, Engraver in Cheapside, London.

Pierre-Charles Canot (circa 1710-1777) was born in France and moved to England, where he was elected Associate Engraver of the Royal Academy in 1770. Willem van de Welde (ca. 1633-1701) was a Dutch marine painter in the 17th century who moved to England. His paintings are considered to be some of the most accurate depictions of 17th century ships.

Please note listed dimensions are for plate size only. All four engravings have been recently framed in matching frames with museum quality glass providing light protection.
